Katie Fortier believes everyday should be filled with creative vibrance! As an emerging Canadian surface pattern designer and artist, she uses this personal motto as the foundation for her work. Influenced by the world around her, she’s inspired by nature and botanicals, the history of art and design, her playful positive spirit, along with the rich and vivid hues of colour and it’s infinite combinations.
Katie’s study of fine arts and photography at OCAD University, cultivated her natural aptitude and keen eye for detail, design, composition, and creative development. In 2016, she continued to advance her skills at the Toronto Fashion Incubator. There, Katie was among the top ten budding designers of her class. TFI awarded Katie funding and mentorship to launch her women’s accessory collection of silk scarves. Later, she continued to establish her skills at George Brown College where she mastered garment construction and sewing.
Katie’s scarf collections feature her uniquely hand-painted designs that light up the room. Her hands-on approach continues to guide and strengthen her process as a surface pattern designer. Katie has since expanded her stylized product line to include notebooks, cozy throw pillows, pouches and art prints. Proudly made in Canada, her designs are digitally printed onto an array of fabrics, stationery and fine art prints. Through every pattern, Katie hopes to ignite a small spark of vibrance and optimism within every viewer.
